HISTORY
Accra Girls High School was setup in 1960 as one of the Ghana Educational Trust Schools. The history of the Ghana Educational Trust School dates back to her 1950s and her 1960s. Marked by Kwame Nkrumah. There were few schools in the country, so few people were educated. A situation unbecoming of our status as a nation. It was therefore important to expand education with the sole purpose of producing a people who lead a commendable and morally correct life while meeting the country’s labor needs for the country’s development.
The government has introduced an accelerated development plan for education to improve the infrastructure of state-supported schools. The Education Trust was established to achieve this goal. The funds were used to establish several primary and secondary schools, one of which was the Accra Girls High School. The school began on his September 30, 1960, under the guidance of expatriate Miss Branch of his Gibson.
At first she started with 12 pupils, within a few months he grew to 42, eventually he to 75, and he to 5 teachers. Mrs. Paulina Bachmann Eileen Darkwar and wife Blanche Gibson. Over the years, the school has seen a significant increase in both staff and student numbers. During its 56-year history, the school has carved out a unique niche by maintaining enviable academic excellence, progress, and high levels of discipline. Despite the lack of material and manpower resources at hand, the school has made a conscious effort to mobilize those resources to reach a higher level.
The school’s pioneering staff are credited with designing the school’s crest. The coat of arms consists of an eagle, a book and a pen, indicating that students are expected to be perceptive, diligent and persevering in their studies. The motto “AIM HIGH” means that the sky should be the limit for students’ academic pursuits, never giving way to mediocrity or complacency. Mrs. Blanche Gibson left the school at the end of the first year, and Mrs. Barbara Odoe and Marjorie Bree took over the administration of the school beginning in the second year.
In 1962, Mrs. Gloria Aryee became principal, succeeded in 1979 by Mrs. Beatrice Sey, who served for three years. Mrs. Kate Covina was the next principal, and in 1995 Ms. Bertha Crotty succeeded her. Miss Her Veronica Akapame took over from her 2002 to her 2016 and was succeeded by her Mrs. The current principal, Joyce Acorazze.
