The 2023 State of CoHSS address was delivered by the 7th president of the college by name His Excellency Francis Xavier Ziekye on Sunday, 23rd of July at the IDL conference centre in fulfillment of article 9 of the college constitution. “leadership is knowing what to do next, knowing why that’s important and knowing how to bring appropriate resources to bear the need at hand.” He quoted. Starting his speech, he declared how under his speech all three faculties making up the college have been able to unite, and that has gone a long way to steer the smooth running of the college. Though it’s been a year since he came into office, he together with his executives has been able to achieve most of their promises despite the challenges they went through. Taking the baton from the past administration he had been able to achieve and make changes in areas of education, social, economic, and health.
Speaking on behalf of education, he revealed that, though the three faculties had been united since time immemorial, there was still the need to promote and strengthen that unity, there was the need to move beyond normal academic culture to a more section where personal life experience would be shared hence the, “ The Maiden Edition of CoHHS unity summit was birthed out to address these needs. At the summit, saw many great achievers of life who shared their challenges and experiences growing up as well as their educational journey
Again, he continued that, there are students who are very fast academically, likewise, there are others who pick up things with a gradual process so ensured that, all those students are not neglected and that he organized a free tutorial for them to better their understanding before the exams commence.
For academic excellence, the college together with other sister colleges unanimously sacrificed their 15% increment in dues allocated to the various colleges as ran result of the increment of fees by 15% to reduce.
On 25 th October 2022, a breast cancer awareness campaign was organised by him and his executives especially the women commissioner played a vital role, she brought in health practitioners to educate the females in the college on breast cancer and the need to make it their concern about it.
He also saw to it that, the women’s commissioner in consultation with health professionals engages the women in cervical cancer screening awareness and how they will deal with the effect of cervical and its mitigating measures.
The acquisition of skills for the students with entrepreneur mindset was my major concern and as a result, there were therefore, the inculcate in them the wisdom of entrepreneurship where knowledge and experience will be developed for the enhancement of their success. He collaborated with KNUST Business Centre as well as the KNUST career centre to organise a program dubbed; hence career connects. The program which recorded over 700 students taking part which indeed was historic in the history of the college. Certificates were awarded to the participant which could enrich their CV aside the knowledge gain gained for their entrepreneurship and personal growth.
Under his administration saw the increment of funds allocated to the college from 16% to 17% which commenced from 5th April, 2023. To ensure the smooth running of the college.
Women are the embodiment of society and so therefore, he believes in women empowerment and providing equality for all and so therefore, in collaboration with the office of the women’s commissioner the need to continue the “SHE POWER “program which was initiated and organised by the previous administration. This program exposed the ladies to the world of possibilities in areas of leadership, entrepreneurship, digitalisation , and personal development
Nature has a way of reminding every female of her status every month and that every lady needs to get what it takes when the month is due but due to financial issues, it becomes difficult for some women to buy one so the college provided a sanitary bank where ladies with difficulties in getting one go for some.
The Miss CoHSS was lounged on the 29th of July 2023 as being first in history in the college to help women in the college build up their confidence level as well as giving them the exposure to the public.
