KNUST Halls Of Residence, Shocking Revelations from KATANGA to Conti Power . We will discuss the halls of residence at KNUST, their brief history, and why it’s crucial to be familiar with them in this post. One of the most important steps in the KNUST admissions process is making hostel reservations. Before reporting to campus, first-year students who have paid all of their academic expenses are expected to reserve their hall of residence.

Due to the housing shortage, students, especially those who are continuing their education, struggle with housing every year, which has caused the cost of hostels to rise yearly.
KNUST has six (6) Traditional halls. Prior to management making them unisex halls in 2018, Unity hall and the University hall were exclusively male residences. Additionally, Knust owns three additional executive hostels, which will be discussed in our upcoming publication.
Republic Hall (THE MONGOLS)

Ghana became a Republican nation in 1960, and the Republic Hall was built to honour that achievement. Although it was initially designed to solely accept male students, the hall switched to a mixed-gender status in 1991 and began accepting female students. In the main block and annex, there are 198 rooms and 96 rooms, respectively.
A modern mini-basketball court, chapel, games room, salon, gift shop, kitchen that serves food, and a Junior Common Room called “Cock Tarven” are all features of Republic Hall.
The hall is known on campus and elsewhere as “Repu,” and it is renowned for its distinctive Hall Week celebration style.

“What I love about Republic Hall is the architecture; the whole hall is a labyrinth you can spend your afternoon getting lost about in. Do well to stop by the JCR and get a drink….or play pool, or play FIFA”
Unity Hall “CONTI POWER” (The Continental)

On October 16, 1968, Unity Hall, generally known as “Conti,” welcomed its inaugural group of students. There are currently more than 1000 students living in the hall. The people who live in the halls are known as “Continentals” or “Conti” for short. Its cutting-edge amenities have earned it the moniker “The Twin of Towers.”
In addition to a well-stocked supermarket, Conti’s shopping centre contains a sophisticated internet café, communication and business centre, a basketball court, a games room, a boutique and gift store, a barbering salon, a kitchen that serves meals, and a basketball court.
The only residence hall on campus having both a radio station, Continental Radio 96.1fm, and the cosiest, friendliest, and largest Junior Common Room is Unity Hall. Due to a change in the university’s policies, Conti lost its male hall status to a mixed hall on August 2018.
With 432 rooms, the Unity hall is the largest on-campus and also in West Africa.
Queens Hall (THE SPARTANS)
What to look out for: Queens Gɔbɛ, Queens Market.
The Duke of Edinburgh formally commissioned the Queen’s Hall in November 1959. It was given the name Queens Hall in honour of the reigning monarch of England, Queen Elizabeth II. But it was not until 1961, during her official visit to Ghana, that Queen Elizabeth II paid a visit to the hall.
A contemporary internet café, communication centre, badminton court, salon, games area, gym, gift shop, shopping centre, and a kitchen that serves food are among the amenities offered by the hall. “Royals” is the term used to refer to members of the hall. Queens Hall is a mixed residence hall with 294 rooms right in the middle of the KNUST campus.
University Hall ( Katanga )

The University Hall, often known as “Katanga,” was built to honour the day, August 22, 1961, when Kumasi College of Technology became a full university. Katanga Hall, formerly a huge male residence hall on campus that was always in competition with “Conti,” lost its position as a male residence hall in 2018 as a result of university policies implemented by Pro. Obiri Danso.
A barbershop, a games room, a chapel, a mini-market, a communication centre, an internet café, a kitchen that serves food, as well as a very entertaining and active junior common area, are just a few of the amenities available in the residence hall (J.C.R). The main hall’s 198 rooms can house up to 792 students, and the annex’s 95 rooms can house up to 380 students.

Africa Hall (THE DOMITES)

On October 14, 1967, students took permanent residence there. Under the direction of Prof. Obiri Danso, the hall was transformed into a mixed hall in 2018 as part of the university’s policies.
A member of Africa Hall is referred to as a “Domite.” Africa Hall is regarded by students as one of the best residence halls on campus. It contains a modern internet café, mini basketball court, games area, salon, chapel, laundry, a modern mini-market, and a properly run kitchen that provides food. Additionally, it has a J.C.R that can stick various foods.
Independence Hall
The premier hall of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Independence Hall, also known as INDECE Hall, is the sole one that serves to remind mother Ghana of her independence, which has helped us go this far.
Independence Hall, KNUST’s prime and first hall, also serves as a long-term home for students of all genders (both male and female students).
Because it was inaugurated in 1959 to honour Ghana’s independence on March 6, 1957, this hall holds a very important place in the hearts of both KNUST students and all of Ghana. The residents of the halls are commonly referred to as “Spartans.” In addition to the 198 rooms in the main hall, there are 96 rooms in an 8-story annex.
The Junior Common Room (JCR) of Independence Hall is the recognised governing body for all undergraduate students at KNUST who are members of the hall and in good standing.
Due to its exceptional outstanding track record of event organising and pace-setting in infrastructure development, Independence Hall is highly regarded by the majority of people (including non-affiliated members). For three years running, Independence Hall has been recognised as the top residence hall in the Vice Chancellor’s Excellence Awards.
In addition to its lovely and peaceful surroundings, it has a dining hall, a communication centre, a gym, a chapel, a salon, a games area, a mini-mart, and an internet café.
Conclusion
In addition to the regular halls, the university’s administration holds a stake in other dormitories. In other words, management helps to manage these on-campus dormitories.
