The Vice-Chancellor of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has paid glowing tribute to retired professors and other KNUST administrative staff who are over 70 years old for their major contributions to the University’s development. Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, the Vice-Chancellor, has devised a number of initiatives to improve the wellbeing of both active and retired University workers.

The Vice-Chancellor used the opportunity to congratulate the over 31 retired employees she visited for their selflessness, dedication, and most importantly, their hard work, which has led to the University’s current growth and enviable position. She asked the retirees to pray for God’s guidance for the present Management and to keep track of the University’s progress so that they can provide inputs.

The retirees who were humbled by the Vice-Chancellor’s gesture expressed their excitement for the honour. They were glad for such an initiative, stating that, that was the first time the University Management has paid them a working visit to enquire about their wellbeing after they have retired from the services of the University.

“Your presence, your kind words of encouragement, your gifts, and your prayers made this visit so graceful and memorable,” says Prof. Nana K. Frimpong-Mensah.

“You have demonstrated a strong sense of commitment to the wellbeing of your active staff and retirees and this is highly commendable. It is my prayer that the good Lord will continue to grant you the enabling spirit to carry on with the strong quality leadership throughout your tenure at the University.” – Prof. (Mrs.) Comfort Charity Atuahene.

“Together you (the Vice-Chancellor) and others of the KNUST Management team have made my day and the beginning of the New Year 2022 a great one; and I am very grateful,” says Prof. Stephen E. Owusu.

“My family and I are most grateful and impressed by your outward display of love and commitment towards your colleagues who are on pension. We are grateful for the way your Administration has been supportive. To receive the Vice-Chancellor and her team in my house as visitors is a sign of dedication and love to former workers of the University.”- Prof. Sir Dr. Dr. G.W. Brobby.

“As far back as we can remember, this is the first time a visit of this nature has occurred and in addition to the visit, we were given some money to carry us through that period of the year when extra money is a huge blessing. The icing on the cake was the prayer said for each of us by the University Chaplain. We hope that this innovative visit by Management to retired and often forgotten members of the University will become a normal practice. May the good Lord bless all those involved in this project as we cannot forget the kindness, concern, and love the University Management has exhibited. We are indeed very grateful,” Says Dr. O.S Olympio, Prof. S.A Osei, Prof. D.B Okai and Prof. C.C. Atuahene.

“My wife and I wish to express to you our deep appreciation for your visit to our home. Your presence was a big surprise. It is often said that little progress each day adds up to big progress. It is therefore very heartening to learn from you that you have not taken the contributions of past employees for granted. Your visit to our home with Registrar and Reverend to pray for us speaks volumes to me.” – Prof. P. Gyawu.
