Professor Otchere Addai Mensah, a Senior Lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, has been chosen by President Nana Akufo-Addo through the Ministry of Health as the next Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.
Bompatahene Nana Effah Apenteng, the Board Chairman of the teaching hospital, has received a formal letter from the ministry of health.
Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has received a formal letter from the Health Ministry notifying him of the president’s new appointment, according to custom, as per sources in Manhyia Palace.
Checks at the referral facility revealed that the board chairman of the facility notified the board members about the new appointment, which needs their approval, during its most recent board meeting.
Following approval, the hospital board is anticipated to officially notify the whole Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital working personnel in the ensuing days.
The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) personnel previously gave notice that they would oppose any nomination of non-permanent staff to the position of CEO (CEO).
This followed speculations within the premier hospital that the President in consultation with Ashanti Regional Executives of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is considering announcing the appointment of Prof. Okyere Addai Mensah as a successor to the retired CEO Dr. Oheneba Owusu Danso.
The said notice from the staff read: “No KATH staff, No CEO; We are capable of managing our own affairs”
Dr. Oheneba Owusu Danso retired last week after serving the referral facility for over 3 decades.
Prof Otchere Addai Mensah is currently the Deputy Director of Students Affairs at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
