STATE OF SRC ADDRESS (SOSA).
The state of the SRC address was delivered by the president who is in the person of His Excellency Master Frank Owusu today, which is Sunday 26th March 2023 at the IDL conference hall.
Addressing the honourable members who represented their various constituents at the parliamentary level, he said it’s been only 5 months now since they were inaugurated into office but they have been able to achieve many things although they have few challenges.”Rome was not built in a day” he said. These are areas he talked about.
SPORTS
Addressing the house on sports, he said; KNUST had the privileged to host the 27th edition of the GUSA game. And together with his executives made a series of donations to the sportsmen. Again, on Friday 28th October 2022, 180 t-shirts and 300 lacost were donated to the sports team. Later when the games came to an end, KNUST won 20 gold medals, 7 silver medals and 13 silver medals.

HEALTH.
“A healthy man is a wealthy man” he quotes so on 18th February 2023, a free health screening was conducted to check the health status of the students and in all, 398 students were screened for HIV, hepatitis and diabetes. 213 students also checked their blood group. Students were also on STIs and many others.
SECURITY.
Under his administration saw the installation of CCTV cameras on campus to ensure good security. He furthered on to explain that, with the help of the chancellor and the vice-chancellor, the new police station was commissioned to ensure good security on and off campus. Faulty security vehicles had been repaired to improve the security patrol on campus.
EDUCATION.
under his administration saw the emergence of online leadership training skills which was launched by the Vice Chancellor prof. Mis Rita Akosua Dickson on 2nd to 12 May 2022 to train and motivate emerging student leaders. Digitalisation is the new trend and as such, E-learning schemes, and E-books were introduced. Again, all first-year course reps were educated on how to manage and have knowledge of online exams. His administration saw the writing of the comm skills mid-semester online which he said, had saved the university a high sum of money.
WELFARE.
Under welfare, he said students were trained in the skills of soap making and about 200 students benefited from it and a lot are making money out of it. He said the SRC in collaboration with some organisations educated students to desist from discriminating against people leaving with disabilities. Proposing a permanent seat for students leaving with disabilities is one of his priorities.
Freshmen orientation activities are something that can not be taken out under his administration. This was to help first-year students to be able to know what occurs on campus and know how to manoeuvre themselves on campus. On the 3rd of February 2023, an orientation on financial security was organised for the various student leaders on how to prepare a budget and avoid the misappropriation of funds. Addressing the house on transportation issues, he declared he had negotiated for private shuttles to make the movements of students on campus very easy. He also saw to it that, stickers are provided to the campus drivers.
Business
Concluding on business, he told the house that, the provision of an entrepreneurship fund is set to help students entrepreneur. These funds are generated from 5 credits of every student’s fee. The SRC contributed 50,000 cedis to the fund. The Board of trustees will be set up to control and manage the fund. This money will be given as grants and loans to student entrepreneurs.
