University of Education leapfrogged 13 other Public Universities to win 2022 GUSA Games in KNUST

The University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has leapfrogged 13 other public universities in Ghana, to cement its position at the summit of the medal table for the 27th edition of the Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) games. 

The games was hosted by the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi.

UEW had a total of 61 medals made of 22 gold, 22 silver and 17 bronze medals respectively and was Crowned the overall Best University in the 27th Edition of GUSA Games with a total of ten [10] trophies.

The university beats off competition from its nearest rival, the University of Cape Coast (UCC), who earned 43 medals in total,made of 19 gold, 10 silver and 14 bronze medals respectively. The UCC have dominated the games over the last 10 years or so. UG Rashid Saminu Sets New 100m Record at 2022 GUSA Games 

The host , Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, KNUST became 3rd with 32 medals, made of 12 gold, 7 silver and 13 bronze medals respectively. KNUST Defeat UG Legon On Penalties To Win First-Ever Title . KNUST won a total of five [5] trophies.

The 18-day games offered opportunity to students to develop their talents in sporting disciplines including football, athletics, volleyball, hockey, handball; basketball; netball; goalball; badminton; table tennis; tennis, beach volleyball among others.

It started on 4th November and will end on 21st November, 2022.

The 14 participated institutions in this year’s games was the host institution Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), University of Education -Winneba (UEW), University of Ghana (UG), Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED), University for Development Studies (UDS) and the Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD UBIDS).

The other schools was University of Cape Coast (UCC), University of Professional Studies Accra (UPSA), Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ), University of Mines and Technology (UMAT), Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) and C. K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT-UTAS).

It would be recalled that UEW emerged the second overall best institution at the immediate past GUSA Games held in 2020 at the University of Ghana, Legon.
