Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first president, founded Yaa Asantewaa Girls’ Senior High in 1951.
The Ghana Education Trust funded the establishment of the institution in 1960. Yaa Asantewaa is named after Ejisu Yaa Asantewaa’s mother, who led a struggle against British colonists. Yaa Asantewaa Senior High has an ongoing Amanadehye alliance with Prempeh College, their boys’ school.
